Installing an Application Package with Mathematica 4

1.

Quit Mathematica if it is running and make sure no users are running Mathematica.

2.

Mount the CD if necessary. You may need to have administrative privileges to mount the CD. A list of typical mount commands for various systems is given at the following FAQ.

http://support.wolfram.com/mathematica/systems/unix/general/mountingcd.html.

3.

Change directories to /cdrom/Unix/Installers.

# cd /cdrom/Unix/Installers

4.

Change directories to the appropriate directory for your platform.

# cd platform

5.

Run ./AppInstaller.

# ./AppInstaller

6.

Enter the installation directory for the application package and press Enter, or simply press Enter to choose the default path. If the specified directory does not exist the installer creates it for you. You will see a warning if the installer must create a new directory.

A custom installation allows you to install only parts of an application. A default installation will attempt to install all related files if they are needed. To run the default installation type d and press Enter.

7.

The installer will begin copying files from the CD to the AddOns/Applications subdirectory of the installation directory. If Addons/Applications does not exist, it is created. Once the installer reaches this point you are not prompted for any further input. Any error messages are logged to SystemFiles/Installation/SystemResources/Manifests/Installation.

8.

Each user must rebuild the Help Index by choosing Help > Rebuild Help Index the next time Mathematica is used. Help for the application will then appear in the Help Browser's Add-ons category.
