Installing an Application Package with Mathematica 4
 In Mathematica 4.2 and later, the default installation location is specified by . However, in Mathematica 4.1 and earlier, $AddOnsDirectory does not exist. The default installation for Version 4.1 and earlier is instead specified by . Use the following steps to change the installation location so that your application package will work with your version of Mathematica. To install an application package in | 1. | Evaluate the command $TopDirectory in a notebook and take note of the directory location given. |
| 2. | Quit Mathematica. Uninstall the application package if it is already installed on your computer. For more information about uninstalling application packages, see Uninstalling Application Packages. |
| 3. | Insert the application CD. |
| 4. | The application CD window will appear. Click Install application to a hard disk. |
| | If the application CD window does not appear, the CD autorun feature might be disabled on your machine. To install the application, double-click the CD-ROM drive icon, open the folder, and double-click the AppInstaller icon. |
| 5. | The “Welcome to AppInstaller” window appears. Click Next to continue. |
| 6. | The “Choose Installation Location” window appears. Click Browse. Make sure that the folder you are browsing to is not hidden. Select as the installation directory and click OK. |
| | Click Next when you are ready to begin copying files. |
| 7. | A screen appears when the installation is complete. Click OK to quit the installer. The application package is now installed and ready for use. |
| 8. | Rebuild the Help Index by choosing the next time you start Mathematica. Help for the application will then appear in the Help Browser's Add-ons category. |
