Why doesn't the installer for Windows application packs require all of the disks?

Some applications pack installers for Windows contain versions of the notebooks that had short filenames, depending on whether you're using Windows 3.1 or Windows 95/NT. The installer was created under the assumption that a possible future version of Mathematica 3.0 would be available that would run under Windows 3.1. See the following page for more details.

The installer won't prompt you for all of the disks under any version of the Windows operating system.
