Why doesn't Mathematica 5.0, 5.1, or 5.2 find the application I installed to $UserAddOnsDirectory or $PreferencesDirectory on Unix?

If you installed an application into $UserBaseDirectory (previously known as $UserAddOnsDirectory or $PreferencesDirectory) or $BaseDirectory, you will need to move the Application directory. The installer creates an AddOns directory that is no longer compatible with Mathematica 5.0 or earlier.

1.

Quit Mathematica.

2.

Locate the installed application. You will probably find its directory in $UserBaseDirectory/AddOns/Applications/, although you may have installed it to $UserBaseDirectory/Applications/AddOns/Applications.

3.

Move the Application's directory to $UserBaseDirectory/Applications.

4.

Restart Mathematica.

5.

Rebuild the Help Browser Index.
