Why can't I get LaunchSlave to work in Mathematica 4.0 in Windows?
If you are using Parallel Computing Toolkit with Mathematica 4.0 and have the latest MathLink libraries (Revision 8) in the folder, LaunchSlave will fail to create a remote connection. The MathLink libraries are the following four files. Currently, there are two ways to get around this issue. | | Upgrade to Mathematica 4.1. This conflict does not occur when using Mathematica 4.1 with Parallel Computing Toolkit and the Revision 8 MathLink libraries. |
| | Completely remove all Wolfram Research products from your machine and reinstall Mathematica 4.0. In order to return to the Revision 7 MathLink libraries, which will correct this problem, it is necessary to remove all Wolfram Research products from your machine and then reinstall them. After uninstalling all Wolfram products, it is suggested that you manually verify that the aforementioned MathLink libraries no longer reside in the folder. If these libraries are not deleted, reinstalling Mathematica 4.0 will not overwrite the Revision 8 libraries. |
