How do I install the Communications Tools for Mathematica 4.0?

Using a remote Unix kernel with the Macintosh front end requires that the communications tools, VersaTerm Telnet Tool, TTY Tool, and VT102 Tool, be installed in the Extensions folder of your System Folder.

These tools are not installed by default. You will need to perform a custom installation.

1.

Run the Mathematica® 4.0 Installer application.

2.

Click the Standard Install drop-down menu and choose Custom Install.

3.

Scroll down to the end to see “Communications Tools” and check that box.

4.

Click the Install button to have the tools copied to your Extensions folder.

Now you can set up a remote kernel to a Unix machine.
