Why does DVIPS halt with the error message Second number not found in Char string of '/FontName' when loading the font Math2-Bold?

We have learned that the Math2-Bold.pfa file shipped on some Mathematica 4 CDs is invalid according to Adobe's published specifications for Type1 fonts. The reason is that the font file lacks a glyph description for the “.notdef” character.

DVIPS is stringent with respect to this aspect of PostScript compliance and will give error messages during the process of loading the Type1 version of the Math2-Bold font.

We have generated versions of Math2-Bold.pfa and Math2-Bold.pfb which correct this problem. To obtain the amended fonts, click on the appropriate link below.

This problem applies only to font version 001.200 of Math2-Bold. It does not apply to earlier versions of Math2-Bold that appeared on Mathematica 3.0 CDs.
