When using Mathematica 4.1, why can't I open DXF files in other programs?

In Mathematica 4.1, you may experience problems when trying to open a DXF file exported from Mathematica in third-party software, such as AutoCAD. We have made available the following file that resolves this issue.

http://support.wolfram.com/archive/mathematica/files/dxfinit.m

Follow these instructions to ensure the proper placement of the dxfinit.m file.

1.

Evaluating the following input in Mathematica returns a path to the AddOns\Autoload\ portion of your Mathematica layout. Create the following folder hierarchy in your Mathematica layout.

In[1]:=
Out[1]=

This will entail creating the DXFExport folder and the corresponding Kernel folder.

2.

Download the dxfinit.m file to the new folder.

3.

Rename dxfinit.m to init.m.

This package will automatically be loaded when starting Mathematica. Once installed properly, you should be able to properly view DXF files in third-party software.
