Why am I having problems with rsh?

A bug in the Mac OS X version of rsh causes problems reading data from the remote machine. This causes problems if users use LinkLaunch and similar commands from the Mathematica front end. For example, the kernel will hang on the following command:

link = LinkLaunch["rsh user@hostname math -mathlink"]; LinkRead[link]
Workarounds

Run link commands directly from the Mathematica 4.1.5 kernel.

Download a binary patch. Please contact Technical Support for details.

Note: Enabling rsh on a Mac OS X computer poses a severe security risk. For more information on rsh and ssh, please contact Technical Support.
