How do I get Mathematica to run more quickly under Windows NT 3.51?

When Microsoft released Windows NT 3.51, many of our users reported a slowdown in Mathematica when redrawing the screen. The slowdown was especially pronounced when rendering graphics. This slowdown can be reduced by installing the Microsoft Service Pack 3 (or later) for Windows NT 3.51. The latest version of the service pack for NT 3.51 is available from Microsoft's Knowledge Base.

One user who installed the Service Pack reports “a dramatic improvement in video performance, not only for Mathematica but in other applications as well.”
