Why do I get a message that “SpeechLib” could not be found?

We have received several reports of Publicon version 0.9 beta for Macintosh failing to start up. In these cases, the following error message is generated.

The application "Publicon" could not be opened because "SpeechLib" could not be found.

This error occurs because the current version of Publicon requires the Speech control panel and Speech Manager system extension. We have made these files available for download at the following URL.

http://support.wolfram.com/publicon/systems/macintosh/files/SpeechManager.sea.hqx

This file is a 119 KB self-extracting Macintosh BinHex archive. Once this file is uncompressed, it will be a folder containing two files, Speech and Speech Manager. Open this folder and move these two files into the System Folder and your computer will automatically place them in the correct subdirectory. You will need to restart your Macintosh to activate these files. After restarting, Publicon should launch properly.
