The MathID is a unique identification key that Wolfram products generate and use to identify your computer. This technical note details how to find the MathID on your machine.

Finding the MathID under Mathematica

If you have already installed and activated Mathematica on your machine :

To find the MathID, please go to the Help menu and choose About Mathematica. Click the System Information button, and a window containing all your licensing information will appear. The Machine ID that appears in this window is your MathID. You can also run the following command in a notebook:

$MachineID

If you have already installed Mathematica on your machine, but choose to activate it later, you will be prompted to enter the activation information the next time you start Mathematica. You can find your MathID in this scenario as explained here.

You can also determine the MathID by going to the directory in which the MathInstaller is located and running the following command:

./MathInstaller -help

Finding the MathID under MathLM

Please note that if you are running Network CalculationCenter®, Network Mathematica, or gridMathematica^TM, you will need the MathLM^TM MathID in order to receive a password.

Windows

After placing the MathLM CD in your computer, you will be given an option to install MathLM to the hard drive; select this option. The MathLM Setup dialog box will then appear detailing the directory in which MathLM will be installed. When you are ready, click Install. After the files have been installed, a dialog box containing the machine name and MathID will appear.

Macintosh OS X

The MathID and machine name will be given after you mount the MathLM CD and run the MathLMInstaller command, as follows:

./MathLMInstaller

The MathLM installer can also be started if you double-click on the CD icon that will appear on the desktop. Double-click on the MathLM CD icon and double-click the Macintosh directory, which contains the MathLMInstaller.bin file. Drag the MathLMInstaller.bin file to a terminal window and press ENTER.

With both methods, information on the installation process and how to get a password will appear. Your MathID and machine name will appear at the end of this prompt.

Linux/Unix
The MathID and machine name will be given after you mount the MathLM CD and run the MathLMInstaller command, as follows:

./MathLMInstaller
