How do I get Mathematica 3.0 to work on a system that has the Radius Rocket installed?

The Radius Rocket card is known to have some problems with sound and more recent versions of System 7. Mathematica 3.0 has a startup sound, which causes Mathematica to fail after the 3.0 splash screen appears.

You can disable the startup sound with the following steps:

Create the following file with a text editor.

Hard Disk:System Folder:Preferences:Mathematica:3.0:FrontEnd:init.m

If the folders do not exist, create them.

This init.m file should contain the following statement.

SetOptions[$FrontEnd, StartupSound->False]
