Why are some of the folders in the Mathematica layout grayed out?

A bug in the Mac OS X version 10.1.x Finder occasionally causes some directories inside the Mathematica 4.1.5 layout to appear grayed-out after the layout is copied from the CD. This will prevent users from traversing into those directories in the Finder. Users will see this only if they open up the bundle to see its contents by control-clicking.

Workaround

The folders will appear normal again after the user logs out and back in to Mac OS X or restarts the computer.
