Why does my Mathematica Front End crash when I render a large 3D graph?

A QuickDraw bug in Mac OS X version 10.1.0 (and earlier) causes an application to crash when it draws a polygon with more than 8,192 vertices. This can happen sometimes when viewing large or complex plots in the Mathematica front end. Wolfram Research has notified Apple of this bug, and it has been partially fixed in Mac OS X version 10.1.1.

Workaround

As a temporary workaround, users should decrease the use of PlotPoints. Users should upgrade to Mac OS X version 10.1.1 if possible.
