How do I change the default installation directory?

By default, Mathematica is installed into one of the following directories.

Mathematica 5.2

C:\Program Files\Wolfram Research\Mathematica\5.2

Mathematica 5.1

C:\Program Files\Wolfram Research\Mathematica\5.1

Mathematica 5.0

C:\Program Files\Wolfram Research\Mathematica\5.0

Mathematica 4.2

C:\Program Files\Wolfram Research\Mathematica\4.2

Mathematica 4.1

C:\Program Files\Wolfram Research\Mathematica\4.1

Mathematica 4.0

C:\Program Files\Wolfram Research\Mathematica\4.0

Mathematica 3.0

C:\Program Files\Wolfram Research\Mathematica\3.0

You are prompted with this directory during installation. If you want to change this directory, it is recommended that you uninstall Mathematica first.

Then reinstall into a different directory (such as C:\Math).

One reason that you may want to set a different install directory is to shorten the filename paths to run the Windows 95 utility ScanDisk.
