Why do I experience problems with formatted expressions when using KDE Konqueror with webMathematica?

When using KDE Konqueror with webMathematica sites, you may experience some formatting problems with the returned results.

For example, an expression that should normally be displayed as

will be displayed incorrectly as the following.

x 3

This problem occurs because the Konqueror browser does not properly support the special HTML character  .

One workaround to this problem would be to use MSPFormat to format your expressions as GIF images. Please see the section on typeset images in the webMathematica documentation for more information on using MSPFormat.
