How do I set up gridMathematica Server with the Lightweight Grid Manager on Windows?

Install grid Mathematica Server on a Compute Node

  1. Quit any previous installations of Wolfram products that are running on your computer.
  2. Installing from a downloaded .zip folder: Double-click the folder to open it. Select setup.exe and setup-1a.bin, and click Extract. By default, both files will be extracted to the Downloads folder.

  3. After the extraction process completes, double-click setup.exe in the Downloads folder to begin installation.
  4. The Setup dialog appears on your screen. Click Next to begin the installation process.

  5. Click Next to install grid Mathematica Server to the default directory.



    To install grid Mathematica Server to a different directory, click Browse and select the directory. Then click Next to continue.

  6. The Select Components dialog appears.

  7. The Mathematica component of the grid Mathematica Server provides Mathematica kernels. The Lightweight Grid Manager component is required in order to enable remote client computers to access the provided Mathematica kernels from this Windows machine.

    Verify that the boxes are checked and click Next to install. The User Account dialog appears.

  8. The Lightweight Grid Manager requires a local user account on the Windows computer. We recommend creating a new local account and naming it “wolframgrid”.

    The password field is the password required to login as this new user. Choose a password. Confirm the password.

    Click Next to continue. The Web Interface Admin Account dialog appears.

  9. The Web Interface credentials are required to change settings in the web interface of the Lightweight Grid Manager. These credentials are different from the user account creation in the previous step.

    The default administrator username is admin. Choose a password. Confirm the password. Click Next to continue.

    The Remove Other Applications dialog appears if other versions of grid Mathematica Server are installed.


  10. Select the versions of grid Mathematica Server that you want to uninstall. Click Next.

    The Ready to Install window appears and summarizes the configured installation settings.

  11. Click Install to begin installing. After some time, the final setup window appears.

  12. Click Finish to launch the Lightweight Grid Manager web interface. We will return to the web interface when testing a grid Mathematica kernel.

Activation/Licensing

  1. Open the File Explorer.
  2. Navigate to the grid Mathematica Server installation directory. The default directory is C:Program Files\Wolfram Research\gridMathematica Server\12.1.
  3. Start the Mathematica component of grid Mathematica Server by double-clicking the Mathematica.exe executable.
  4. Activate grid Mathematica Server.

Test a grid Mathematica Kernel

  1. Return to the web browser from the end of the Installation section, or open a web browser and navigate to localhost:3737. The main Status page appears.

  2. The left panel indicates any grid Mathematica Servers visible on the local network, including the one that was just installed.

    Navigate to Kernel Settings ► Services.

  3. Click the Open Kernel link to open a kernel. A warning message appears.
  4. Confirm the warning message by clicking OK. A Wolfram kernel attempts to start.
  5. Wait for the Wolfram kernel to initialize. A connection status appears.
  6. Verify that the kernel state is Available.

The configuration of the Lightweight Grid Manager is now complete and tested.
